James V. Melton of Oxnard, California past away peacefully at home on April 20, 2009. He was born on October 31, 1932 in Tennessee to Grover Sterling and Lily Sarah Melton. He spent his childhood in Jonesboro, Arkansas, and served his military duty during the Korean Conflict. At the time of his discharge, he joined his family in Oxnard. In the early 60’s he was employed by Ocean View School District as a maintenance/mechanic bus driver. During his 55 years in Oxnard, he also worked as a ranch hand for several county ranches including the UTT Development where he spent twenty-five years. Retiring in 1982, he established a maintenance service. He enjoyed camping, hiking, being outdoors, but his greatest pleasure came from being with his family.
He is survived by his wife Sheila Melton of Oxnard; daughters: Vickie Beardall husband Greg Beardall of Ventura, Debbie Lake-McMahon husband Vince MacMahon of Ventura, Belinda Hernandez husband William Hernandez of Oxnard; sons: Dane Hadley wife Marcia Hadley of Oxnard, James Melton Jr., Clara Flores of Oxnard; grandchildren Jessica (husband Quito) Gallegos, Nicole Rizzie, Joshua (wife Veronica) Lake, Willie Hernandez, Vincent McMahon, Breanne Hernandez, Christen Naclerio, Cameron Hernandez, Daniel Naclerio, Cody Melton; great-grandchildren: Alexis Gallegos, Jadin Gallegos, Max & Laker Naclerio and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, brothers Truman and Thurman, and his sister Viola. He was a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather and will be greatly missed.
