Igor Zubko
Igor Zubko, 73, of Newbury Park, California passed away at home on Thursday afternoon October 28, 2010.
Igor was born in Dubrovnik, Yugoslavia, On August 13, 1937. He was the son of the late Alexander Zubko of Russia and Bosilka Jovanovich of Serbia.
Igor emigrated to Canada with his brother Nicolas, his two sisters Irene and Nancy, and his mother and father at the age of eight. While living in Canada, Igor pursued the shoe manufacturing trade and became a skilled and accomplished industry professional. He devoted much of his talent to such shoe manufacturing companies as Sbicca shoes, Cheroke, and K-Swiss.
It was also in Canada where he met his wife of 44 years, Hermine Plochl. They moved to Williamsport, Pennsylvania where their two children, Christina and Alexander, were born. Soon after, opportunity carried Igor and his family to San Diego, California. California is where they and their children have called home for the years since then.
Igor and Hermine lived in Newbury Park for the past 16 years. Igor inspired others with his gentleness and kindness. He is remembered for his genuine love for God, his church family and pastor. In his neighborhood, Igor touched the lives of many of those who frequented the pool with his wit, warmth, and his commitment to health and fitness.
Igor will be greatly missed by his wife and two children; his sister, Irene, his sisters- and brother-in-law, Yvette, Eleanor and Julius; his nieces, Susan, Debbie, Karen, Elaine and Elisabeth; his nephews, Gary & Adrian; his best friend, Rey and his wife, Fey; James, his dear swimming partner; and Renee, his personal trainer. He will also be missed by his two beloved cats, Minka and Coco.
Igor’s immediate family extends their humble thanks and gratitude for all the neighbors, friends, and members of the extended family for their abiding love and support during this difficult time.
