Harry Stone

d. November 7, 2008

Harry “Bob” Stone, age 84, peacefully passed away at home while in the loving care of his wife Julie and his daughter, JaNita, on November 7, 2008. He was born in Carlisle, PA to Harry and Elnora Stone on March 1, 1924. He was proud of his military service, serving as a Marine in WWII on Iwo Jima and Guadalcanal, progressing to the rank of Corporal; he also served during the Korean War and took pride in being a Drill Instructor while stationed at Camp Pendleton, CA. After an Honorable Discharge from the Marine Corps, he began his Civil Service career with the US Postal Service in Oceanside, CA later relocating to Santa Barbara, CA where he retired after 27 years. He enjoyed gardening, meeting people and discovering new things. He loved to travel and enjoyed learning of the history of the places he traveled to. He relished in sharing his discoveries and often interjected fun and excitement in the many trips he took with his family. He was well known for his sense of humor and quick wit, and he was always looking to keep the mood light. Harry is survived by his wife, Julie; sister, Shirley Stone-Bell of Newville, PA; daughter and son-in-law Diana and John Knight of Berkeley, CA; daughter Maryanne Manchuelle and her son Julian of Ashland, OR, and daughter JaNita Diggins and her son Noah of Inglewood, CA as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents Harry and Elnora Stone, his brothers Paul, William, Robert and Fred; sisters Elizabeth, Mary, Margaret; and sons Harry Jr. and Paul. The family wishes to express sincere thanks and gratitude to Assisted Home Hospice in Ventura for their guidance and compassionate care during his brief illness.
