Guillermina “Mina” Magdaleno Almanza, a long time resident of Moorpark, California died Tuesday, the 30th of May after her three-year battle with cancer. She spent her last moments surrounded by family at bedside at Simi Valley Hospital.
Born in La Jabonera in Michoacan, Mexico, Mina immigrated to the United States during her teenage years with her parents and eight siblings. Being the eldest female of the nine children, after her mother’s death in 1982, Mina took on the maternal role of caring for her younger siblings. To this day, she is considered a second mother to them all and is the heart of the Magdaleno family.
She found her soul mate and partner in life at age 23 when she married her husband Emilio Zavala Almanza. Together they raised four children and began a small business selling in flea markets and their home. These small sales eventually lead to the opening of their store, Mina’s A Little Bit of Everything where they both dedicated their time and effort for 15 years. She was a great negotiator, saleswoman, and entrepreneur.
Mina will be missed but remembered by all her wonderful qualities. She was a woman of God who loved serving others. She will be remembered as someone who was strong, kind, humble, determined, and an amazing cook.
She is survived by her husband, Emilio Almanza and four children Emiliano, Jesus, Genesis and Ruby Almanza and two grandchildren Lizbeth and Yahir Almanza. In addition, she leaves multitudes of close family members within the Magdaleno, Arreola, Navarette, Arias, Alfaro and Mendez families.
Services will be held Saturday, June 3rd at Cornerstone Community Church in Moorpark at 11am followed by the burial at Assumption Cemetery.
