Guadalupe Rodriguez was an amazing husband, father, son and friend. He was a hardworking man, a man of faith, and an inspiration and hero to his three children. He was born in Ojo de Agua, Municipio de Zamora, Michoacan on February 5, 1943.
The community and family new him as “Lupe” and his children and grandchildren knew him as “Papa Lupe”
Lupe and Alicia met in Mexico City. Soon, he immigrated to the United States and he and Alicia kept in touch by writing each other letters. He declared his love for her in one of those letters and…a few years later, he returned to Mexico City in order to ask for her hand in marriage. They married on January 8, 1972 at Iglesia Del Calvario in Zamora, Michoacan. Papa Lupe came to Camarillo with his wife in 1972. They settled here and had three children. Ray, Letty and Gris. Their first child was Raymundo, second was Leticia and third was Griselda.
Each time one of his children were born, Papa Lupe would be filled with such joy that he would rush to buy his wife Alicia a big vase of flowers and would take them to her hospital bedside. Then, before arriving home with their newborn baby, they would stop at St. Mary Magdalen Chapel and give thanks to God and the Virgin Mary for their beautiful newborn child.
Papa Lupe loved his garden! He planted beautiful trees, flower trees, fruit trees, chili peppers, cactus, and all types of flowers. He loved hearing his beautiful wife sing everyday while she did her household chores. He loved driving around in his Jeep and taking his grandkids to school and picking up his grandchild from school. Papa Lupe was a reserved man but he had a heart of gold. He had a smile that lit up your world and an intoxicating laugh. He loved playing with his grandkids and making them laugh.
He lived a long and happy life but unfortunately God decided he needed an angel and in the early morning of Wednesday, October 11, 2017, God decided to take him home. He died peacefully in his home, in the arms of his loving wife Alicia Rodriguez.
