Guadalupe Rodriguez Benavides
Oxnard, Ca
Our beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Guadalupe Rodriguez Benavides, went to be with the angels in heaven on June 14, 2012. She passed in the comfort of her home while surrounded by her loving family.
She was born on July 1, 1931 to Antonio Rodriguez Ramos and Maria del Carmen Chavez Ramirez in San Gabriel, Jalisco, Mexico. At the age of 19, her family moved to Guadalajara where she helped her father and brother establish a successful butcher shop, “Carniceria La Fortaleza”, which is still operated by family today. She devoted her life to family gatherings, especially the annual Posadas, which she did so her grandchildren could enjoy the Christmas holiday traditions that she remembered from Mexico. She had many hobbies, including traveling, crocheting, cooking, canning, and sewing. And who could forget Grandma and her “novelas”. She worked in the “chileria”, where she made many good friends. She was an Avon representative, where she reached the President’s Club level.
She is survived by her loving husband of 53 years, Nicandro. They were married on August 15, 1958 and moved to Oxnard in 1960. They had five children, Noemi Valdes (Ricardo), Nicandro Benavides (Gianna), Roberto Benavides (Raylene), Maria Elena Acosta (James) and Gildardo Benavides (Rachel); nine grandchildren, Ricardo, Estevan and Miguel Valdes; Sonya Benavides; Robert and Anthony Benavides; Gabriel Ford; Stephanie Benavides (Victor Garcia) and Gildardo Benavides (Marina Nava); and two great-grandchildren, Victor Garcia and Sophia Benavides, and numerous nieces, nephews and godchildren.
All who were blessed to know her will miss her endearing spirit and unconditional love. It is with gratitude and thankfulness that we recognize our cousin Rosita Oregel for caring for our mother this past year and thank her physicians and the staff at Livingston Memorial.
Rosary Service will be on Wednesday at 7:00PM at the Perez Family Funeral Home in Camarillo. Mass of Christian burial will be on Thursday at 10:30am at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in Oxnard, with internment immediately following at Santa Clara Cemetery.
