Gloria Baldonado Martinez

Gloria Baldonado Martinez, age 85, passed away Saturday April 29th, 2017. She was born November 6th, 1931 in Camarillo, Ca. She married Heriberto Martinez on May 2nd, 1959. Gloria was born during the Great Depression and raised in Camarillo, California with 8 siblings. It was a difficult economic period that helped shape her toughness and made her the strong woman she became. During her youth, she developed a love for reading. She also developed a caring demeanor, traits she carried with her for the rest of her life. Gloria married at a young age and became a proud mother soon afterward. A young family and surviving check to check would prove to have an impact that would send her back to school in later years. After her first marriage was over, she met Heriberto "Beto" Martinez. They married in 1959 and they had 3 more children. Together they raised the children in their Oxnard home and had many adventures watching over them and traveling. When the youngest child was finally in school, Beto supported her decision to return to school and picked up the slack in the home. In 1971, Gloria finally obtained her RN license. As a Registered Nurse, she worked in a few local hospitals. At home all the kids would want her to treat their sick pets. After retiring from Nursing, she helped Beto run his trucking business. Mom loved music, reading, and watching sci-fi movies and television shows. Her favorite times were family parties and visiting with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Gloria enjoyed following England's royal family. She traveled to Alaska, Texas, Mexico and twice to Europe. One of her favorite vacations was a visit to Windsor Castle and Buckingham Palace in London. Gloria is survived by her loving children: Sylvia Basua (Buzz), Dennis R. Montijo, Virginia Martinez Arguelles, Josefina "Elva" Yurof (Jey), Heriberto "Eddie" Martinez Jr. (Caroline), Daniel Martinez; 25 Grandchildren, 56 Great-Grandchildren and 5 Great-Great-Grandchildren; Two brothers- Alex Ledesma (Ruth), and Rudy Baldonado (MaryHelen). Gloria is preceded in death by Heriberto Martinez - Husband, Ruben Montijo - Son, and Randy Montijo - Son. The family would like to offer much thanks and appreciation to the nursing staff at the Glenwood Care Center for the love and amazing care they extended to Gloria in her final days. It was such a relief to us to know that she was so well taken care of. Services are under the Care of Perez Family Funeral Home in Camarillo, Friday, May 5, 2017, beginning with viewing and service at 11AM, followed by graveside service at 12:30 at Ivy Lawn Cemetery and reception at Knights of Columbus in Oxnard.
