Gilbert “Gil” Zamora passed away Saturday, May 7, 2011 at the age of 75 in Ojai, California. He was born February 3, 1936 in Los Angeles, California to Jacinto and Eva Zamora.
Retired Master Sergeant Gilbert Zamora, once the youngest American soldier since the Civil War, served in the Army for 39 years. He fought in Korea and Vietnam and was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal, two Bronze Stars, the Air Medal and the Purple Heart.
Gil loved life – his country, the Army, his family and friends, traveling, meeting new people and good food. He was a kind, generous and proud man whose enthusiasm for life was apparent in everything he did.
He is survived by his wife, Carol, former wife, Irene, six children, Richard, Carmen, Gilbert Jr., Michelle, Robert, and Ronald, 12 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and his brothers and sisters.
Memorial services will be held with full military honors in Arlington, Virginia. Burial will follow at Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Virginia.
