Georgia Mae Chisum went to be with The Lord October 21, 2009.
Georgia was born December 12, 1935 in Milburn, Oklahoma, to Theron Shuford and Dorothy Mae Franks. In 1948 she and her family moved to Borger, Texas, where she attended school. In 1957 she met Shelby Derald Chisum, and they were married in January of 1958. They moved to Ojai California in the fall of that same year. She lived in Ojai ever since.
The Chisums started their Floor Covering business in the mid-1960s with Georgia helping customers and doing the company bookkeeping. They retired in July of 2005.
Georgia was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She will always be remembered for her quiet and sweet spirit. She was available at all times to her family and constantly ready with a kind word. She was a long-time member of Ojai Valley Baptist Church. Her hot rolls, sweet pickles, and sprite plum jam were all favorites. Her family will continue to treasure her paintings, which often feature landscapes, barns, and birds. Her ability to work outside of the home while still providing a warm and loving home environment is an example worthy of following.
Georgia is survived by her husband of nearly 52 years, Derald Chisum; son Don Chisum of Bakersfield, daughter and son-in-law Debra and Tim Kresge of Ojai, and four grandchildren: Camille and Courtney Kresge, and Brandon and Brittany Chisum. She is also survived by her three siblings, all of whom live in Texas: Vergie Brown of Borger, Theron Franks of Fritch, and Glenda Lund of Arlington, and their spouses Olan, Carol, and Bill, respectively.
Services will be held at Ojai Valley Baptist Church on Tuesday, October 27, at 10:00 a.m.
While the family knows that she is in a far better place, our hearts are heavy with our loss. She is and will be greatly missed.
