Frances Gomez Almaguer, 85 years of age, passed away peacefully in her home in Moorpark, CA on August 4, 2012. She was surrounded by her immediate family and loved ones at the time of her passing. Frances was a longtime resident of Moorpark, CA and lived most of her life in Ventura County. She is remembered far and wide as a generous and loving person who opened her heart and home to everyone that she knew. She brought immense joy to the lives of her family and will be remembered always for her selflessness, unconditional love, strength, resilience, and sense of humor.
She was born on January 11, 1927 in Anthony, New Mexico to the late Marcos Gomez and Isabel Sanchez Gomez of Columbus, NM. She was the first born in her family and is survived by her loving brothers and sisters: Ernest Gomez (wife Mary) of Simi Valley, Emelio Gomez (wife Evelyn) of Gilbert, AZ, Bertha Garcia (husband Sam) of Deming, NM, Lucy Gomez of Lancaster, Dolores Gomez Navarro of Moorpark, Gloria Faunda of Henderson, NV, Esther Rodriguez (husband Manny) of Bent, NM, Crusita Miranda (husband Louis) of Moorpark, and their numerous children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
Frances loved wandering her property, “wasting water,” and feeding the birds. She was a busybody who was famous for losing track of time. Never one to mince words, she was blunt and brutally honest. She was always searching for bargains and driving her car all around town. She enjoyed cooking for her family, especially menudo on Sundays. She loved her “nightcaps” of wine and watching her novelas. She enjoyed playing the Wheel of Fortune slot machines, and recently discovered a love for Jello shooters. She was truly the matriarch and glue of the family; she sparkled with happiness that was infectious.
She is survived by her adoring children: Tomas Almaguer of San Francisco, Richard Almaguer of Simi Valley, Annette Paredes (husband Gino) of Grayson, GA, Jerry Almaguer, Robert Almaguer (wife Patie), Susie Almaguer, Paul Almaguer (wife Mirna), Melissa Gomez (husband Al) of Moorpark, CA and the two grandchildren that she raised as her own: Jennifer Almaguer Nilsson (husband Tait) of Lincoln, CA and Michael Almaguer of Moorpark. She is survived by her 21 grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. She will join her husband Thomas Peter Almaguer, brother Bobby Gomez, and son Arthur David Almaguer in heaven.
Her family would like to thank Dr. Baker and staff for their longtime care. We are deeply grateful to Karen Gardner and staff of TLC Hospice for their extraordinary care, dedication, and compassion. Karen, you are truly an angel and a blessing in our lives.
Her family invites everyone whose lives she has touched to the funeral services on August 11, 2012 at 1:00 at Perez Funeral Home in Camarillo. It will be followed by a reception and celebration of her life at the adjacent Reception Hall.
