Eulalio Gonzalez Cabriales

d. August 21, 2010

Eulalio “Ed” Cabriales, loving husband and father and cherished grandpa passed peacefully into God’s loving arms on August 21, 2010, following a courageous battle with cancer. While holding his wife’s hand and surrounded by his loving family and dear friends, Ed entered eternal rest into God’s kingdom. Ed was born on August 13, 1926, in Lyford, Texas, one of six children. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Nellie Garcia Cabriales; three children: daughter, Susan (Ralph) Gutierrez of Killeen, TX; son, Gary (Sandra) Cabriales of Moorpark, CA and son, Steve Cabriales of Moorpark, CA. Ed also leaves behind one sister, Benita Gonzales, Moorpark, CA; two brothers: Robert (Delia) Cabriales, Houston, TX and Reyes (Concha) Cabriales, Harlingen, TX. Ed was blessed with nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews and extended “family.” Ed was raised in Harlingen, TX on “the ranch” for the first 15 years of his life. At the age of 16, his love of travel began as he proudly left home to serve the country he loved and joined the United States Navy. With Ed’s passing, America has lost another great World War II veteran. Ed served in both the European and Pacific Theatre’s during World War II, and participated in a support role during the D-Day invasion of World War II. Ed was also a Korean War veteran. His 20-year Navy career included tours on the following ships: the USS Shasta, the USS Luzon, the USS Bauer and a round-the-world cruise on the USS Midway. Ed retired from the Navy in 1962 and his career decorations include: 6 Bronze Stars, National Defense Service Medal, China Service Medal, European African Middle Eastern Service Medal, and the Asiatic Pacific Service Medal. After his military career, Ed and Nellie settled in Moorpark, where Nellie’s family had lived since the early 1900’s. Ed then began a second career as a Supply Supervisor in the Aerospace Industry working for Rocketdyne in Canoga Park, CA from which he retired in 1984 after 23 years of service. “Service above self” was a way of life for Ed. A member of the Moorpark community for 50 years, Ed would always be one of the first to lend a hand wherever it was needed. His passion to serve was endless as he was a charter member of the Knights of Columbus Council 9969 at Holy Cross Catholic Church as well as an active member of Moorpark’s American Legion Post 502. After retirement, Ed and Nellie enjoyed life by traveling extensively with family and friends to their favorite place….Hawaii. They were also fortunate to travel to Europe, the Caribbean, Mexico, and various locations throughout the United States. Ed’s pleasant demeanor made him everyone’s friend. He was a big man with an even bigger heart. With his friendly smile and warm laugh, he would always try to make your day a little brighter. With a gentle, loving spirit and his generous ways, Ed was always finding ways to lend a helping hand to those in need. He loved spending time making memories, having a “cold one,” and dancing to the music, usually Hawaiian music! Ed was loved by many and will be greatly missed by all that were blessed to have known this gentle man. He loved us all dearly and lived life to the fullest. Our hearts are broken, but we rejoice knowing that you are now hugging your granddaughter, Lisa, again. To our beloved Grandpa, thank you for being an awesome grandpa and for always being there for us! We will love you and keep you in our hearts forever. We look forward to that day when God will reunite us again. Rest in peace Grandpa. “Who is wise and understanding among you? Let him show by good conduct that his works are done in the meekness of wisdom.” JAMES 3:13
