Obituary: Eugene Colfax Peck II, USNR(Ret)
Eugene Colfax “Pete” Peck II passed away quietly on March 2 with his family and close friends by his side. He was born in Cleveland, Ohio on March 10, 1922 to Lionel Sidney Peck and Lucille Millet Peck, and grew up in Macedonia, Ohio. He graduated from Yale University in 1943 and enlisted as a pilot in the U.S. Naval Reserves during WWII. He graduated from Case Western Reserve (Law) in 1948. He moved to California in 1951, was called to active duty in the Korean War, and eventually settled in Oxnard in 1961, where he started a civil law practice. He remained in active practice until a month before his passing. He also qualified as and was appointed an Attorney and Counsellor of the Supreme Court of the United States. He retired from the Naval Reserves in 1988 at the rank of Lt. Commander, having proudly served his country for 46 years.
He was passionate about aviation, politics, and classical music, and always had a joke or funny story to tell. He deeply loved his country and was actively engaged in supporting political causes and those helping veterans. It was never hard for him to have the utmost integrity in his practice. His mind was clear to the very last.
He was preceded in death by his twin brother Lionel Sidney II, his first wife and mother of his children, Maria Gulovich Peck, and his late wife Mary Eaton Peck. He is survived by his son Edmund Eugene, daughter Lynn Suzan, granddaughter Lisa Maria, nephews Tony and David, niece Kitty, 2 great-nieces and 3 great-nephews and their families.
A military funeral is pending. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to charitable organizations helping veterans. The family wishes to express its sincere gratitude to the many friends who have poured out their love and support during this time.
