Dorothy B. Matheney- Arleta, CA (Nov. 18, 1930 to Jan. 31, 2011)
Dorothy Beatrice Matheney, 80 years old, passed away early morning on January 31, 2011. Born to William & Mildred Lightfoot on November 18th, 1930 in Los Angeles, Dorothy grew up in west Los Angeles attending local schools. Dorothy married her University High School sweetheart John (Jack) Matheney. While raising 3 sons and 1 daughter on the westside, Dorothy worked as an accounting clerk at HydroAir for 31 years.
Some of her favorite things included knitting, shopping for antiques, camping in Morro Bay & collecting shells as she walked along the beach. Dorothy loved turtles, was a CA desert tortoise rescuer, and cared for a variety of turtles & tortoise species. She loved to help others & would do anything for family and friends. Everyone that knew Dorothy would say how loving and caring she was.
Dorothy is survived by 2 sons, 7 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, her brother, sister, & their spouses.
The service for Dorothy will be conducted by Dr. David McAllister and will be held at Gateway Christian Church: 11760 Gateway Blvd., Los Angeles, CA 90064 on Friday, February 4th, at 11:30 AM. Lunch & refreshments will be served after the service. The burial will be at 2:30 PM at Inglewood Park Cemetery: 720 Florence Ave., Inglewood, CA 90301. In lieu of sending flowers, donations can be made to the American Cancer Society (www.cancer.org) or to the USO (www.uso.org).
