Donald Wilson Travis Jr. passed away December 16, 2009 at St. John's
hospital with family at his side.
Don was born January 24, 1943 in Decatur Illinois. His family moved
to San Diego when he was a small child and he grew up in National City
and Chula Vista. His parents are Donald W. Travis Sr. and Pauline
Sorenson. Don is brother to Tom, Judy, Randy and Sandy.
As an adult, Don spent time all around the world during his career in
the Navy, while his family was stationed in Southern California. Upon
retiring, he and his wife made Oxnard their home base, while his
children deployed across the country.
He has been married to his High School sweetheart, Joyce for 48 1/2
years. He loved her so much they had to hunt across the country to
get permission from his father as Don was too young to get married.
Together, they have four children, Donald, Daniel, Joell and Jennifer;
and seven grandchildren, Morgan, Tyler, William, Camiele, Caroline,
Joshua and Katherine.
During his life, he spent 45 years in the field of Aviation Ordnance.
28 of those years were in dedicated service to the United States Navy
and 17 years as a Civilian Government Contractor. The nature of Don's
job is confidential, just know, I.Y.A.O.Y.A.S!
In his retirement Don enjoyed keeping score for the Pt. Mugu softball
league, the Channel Islands Military Officials Association. He also
enjoyed playing a weekly betting game with his wife during football
season. His favorite team was the San Diego Chargers. Don was an
avid reader and also a fan of crime based television. His favorite
past time was his family. Don was a devoted husband, loving father
and grandfather, and a caring brother and uncle. He is the best
friend anyone could have, even if his jokes are bad and it takes a
long time to figure out how to put up a tent while intoxicated.
We love you Papa!
I will love and miss you forever Sweetheart!
