Donald L. Moore
Ojai, CA
Psalm 73:26 “…God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.”
Donald L. Moore, son of Leslie and Neva Moore was born on Christmas day, 1931, in the original E.P. Foster hospital in Ventura, California. He went home to be with the Lord Monday May 14th after a brief struggle with acute leukemia. He met Jo Ann, his wife of 56 years, on a blind date. Together they had three children, daughter Robyn of Downey, CA, Neva (Tim) of Lompoc, CA, and Dana (Denise) of Phoenix, AZ. He was very proud of his six grandkids, Joleen, Heather, Paul, Autumn, Erik, and Mia.
Don spent his entire childhood in Foster Park. After serving his country for three years in the Army, he attended Colorado School of Mines and graduated from Fresno State with a degree in mathematics. He was in on the ground floor of computer programming before working as a site representative for NCR. Don was called into the ministry in 1973 when he was hired by the Union Rescue Mission of Los Angeles to be the business manager and then the director of Green Oak Ranch, a boys and girls camp in Vista, CA.
In 1985, Don went on staff at the Ojai Valley Community Church. While working as the Associate Pastor, he earned his Masters of Ministry from Trinity Theological Seminary in Evansville, Indiana. He was widely known and loved for his work with seniors, women’s ministry, food pantry, missions, and children’s musicals.
After retiring in 1999, Don and Jo Ann enjoyed traveling both in the United States and abroad. He enjoyed writing, bicycling, gardening, and fighting gophers with his best friend, Sparky.
Don’s deepest love was for his Lord, and his greatest joy was leading others to his Savior Jesus Christ.
