Dolores Ann Ditzhazy

d. March 3, 2021

Post Falls, ID - Dolores Ditzhazy, a longtime resident of Ventura County, CA, passed peacefully on the morning of March 3, 2021 at her home in Post Falls, ID, surrounded by family. She was 81 years old. After spending the past four decades in Camarillo, she moved to Post Falls last year, where one of her daughters was already living and where two other children joined her soon after. The daughter of Stephen and Mary Cobb, Dolores was the youngest of five children. She was born in Detroit, MI and graduated from St. Gregory High School. Shortly thereafter she married her high school sweetheart, Anthony Ditzhazy, and they moved to California where she lovingly raised a family of seven children. Dolores's family was her primary focus in life. Her home was always open to others in need, including foster children and her own adult children, several of whom returned home for brief stays. For several years, Dolores worked as a teacher's aide to children in Special Ed for the Mesa Union School District in Camarillo. She also led her daughters' Camp Fire Girls troops. It gave Dolores great joy to attend her grandchildren's receptions of religious sacraments. She also enjoyed going to the beach, camping (especially at Carpinteria State Beach), hosting family gatherings, cooking ethnic Slovak and Hungarian foods, doing jigsaw and crossword puzzles, and playing the slots in Las Vegas! On weekends, she expertly mapped out and enjoyed shopping garage sales. In her later years, Dolores was fond of watching on TV her favorite sports teams, including Notre Dame football, the Los Angeles Lakers, and the Los Angeles Dodgers. Dolores's life was also one of service to the Roman Catholic Church. She served as a Eucharistic minister, taught religious education classes, and facilitated numerous programs including: Marriage Encounter, junior high peer ministry, parish confirmation programs, confirmation retreats, church fiestas, a living nativity, parish participation at the L.A. Congress, small church groups, women's retreats, and Women's Bible Study which she both inaugurated and led for ten years. She was also involved with the inter-denominational Bible Study Fellowship for many years. She loved to proclaim to her fellow Bible study members that "God is good all the time, and all the time, God is good!" and she would often share this inspiration with others. Dolores is survived by her daughters: Marianne Miller (Ross), New Windsor, NY; Suzanne Tallman (John), Granite Bay, CA; Jeanne Stehly (Will), Coeur d'Alene, ID; Kathleen More (Michael), Coeur d' Alene, ID; Patricia Livingston (Jeff), Escondido, CA; her son, Peter Ditzhazy, Post Falls, ID; and her sisters-in-law, Margie Wicks, of Germfask, MI and Evelyn Kozleski (Al) of Cheboygan, MI. Dolores has 14 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by: her devoted husband of 42 years, Anthony; her son, Paul; her brothers, Eugene, Jack, and Francis; and her sister, Marianne Leadbetter. Led by the Women's Bible Study group, Dolores's family will be reciting the Rosary together on March 17 at 6:00 pm., and it was her expressed hope that, at this same time, others would pray the Rosary as a family in their own homes. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. James Stehly at St. Mary Magdalen Church, Camarillo, CA on March 18 at 10:00am. Interment will immediately follow at Bardsdale Cemetery, Fillmore, CA for family members only. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made by check to St. Mary Magdalen Church, and on the memo line, "Dolores--Women's Bible Study."
