Diana Hicks
A “Phenomenal Woman”
Diane Washington was born on August 20, 1954 to Odell and Arlether Washington in Forrest City, Arkansas. The second of ten children, she attended Eldridge Butler Elementary and Lincoln Junior High before meeting Jimmie Marvin Hicks while at Forrest City High. The two fell in love and welcomed the first addition to their family, Everett Damon Hicks, on June 12, 1972 in Los Angeles, California. Shortly after Damon was born, Diane and family headed back to Forrest City to help care for her younger siblings.
Once back in Arkansas, the entire Washington clan realized it was time for a change. Having spent time in sunny California, the family decided the beautiful coast would be their new home. And so the migration to Port Hueneme began, with Diane and Jimmie arriving in February 1977. They became members of Evangelistic Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Albert D. Southall, who officiated their wedding on May 13th of that same year. From this union, Diane Washington became Diana Hicks and the happy trio grew into a family of four with the arrival of Marvin Lenell “Lenny” Hicks on February 4, 1978.
Diana began working on the local naval base to help provide for her family, but would later retire from the United States Postal Service in 2006. During that time, Diana and Jimmie realized they had more love to give, so they prayed for a daughter to round out the bunch. An answer to prayer, Keyana Nicole Hicks was born December 17, 1982. Now that the family was complete, Diana would live out the rest of her days as a wife, mother, daughter, sister, trusted friend, but most importantly a woman of God. She joined and attended Hope’s House Christian Ministries under the leadership of Charles and Andrea Humphrey until called to her heavenly home on March 10, 2018. What a PHENOMENAL WOMAN!
