Cora Patricia Jones

On July 31, 2015 our beloved mother, Cora Patricia Jones, age 95, departed this life to be with the Lord. She passed peacefully at her home surrounded by her loving family. Cora was born in Shroud, Oklahoma on November 25, 1919. She was one of eleven children. Her family moved from Oklahoma to Phoenix, AZ where she met and married Joseph Goone. Together they had three children, Betty, Barbara, and Joseph, Jr. In 1959 she graduated from Arizona State University with a B.A. degree in Elementary Education. Cora and her family then moved to Oxnard, CA in 1959, where she became an elementary school teacher for 35 years. Love was at the heart of her curricula. Love also made her Teacher of the Year, 1978 -1979 for the Oxnard Unified School District. After retirement she became even more active in her sorority, Delta Sigma Theta Inc. She also found time to travel. She modeled love for her daughters Betty and Barbara ? both educators ? and for her son, Joseph Goone, Jr. who graduated from Stanford University. After 37 years of marriage, her husband, Joseph Goone, Sr. passed away. Years later she married Dr. Harry Jones and moved with him to Harlingen, TX, where he passed away twelve years later. Cora then returned to California to live with her son Joseph Goone, Jr. until his death in 2014. Her daughter Barbara, along with her husband Marlin and son Kazi then moved down from Oakland, CA to be with her until she passed away. Love raised her. It was her parents, her family, her heart. Love was what she became very early in life. She never stopped being what she was created to be. Love has given her a new place to live. A place where she can look down on this earth daily, to make sure those born of her heart would smile up at her and know there would be a family reunion someday at her new home in heaven. Thank you mom for being our teacher and model of love.
