Consuelo Contreras

We are sad to announce the passing of our beloved mother, Consuelo Lopez Contreras (aka Connie), who passed away peacefully on November 14, 2024 surrounded by family and Catholic Sisters praying and singing while she transitioned to her eternal life. She was born on June 9, 1926 to Eulalio Lopez and Francisca Ramirez. She was a proud resident of Ventura County for the majority of her 98 years.

Connie became a widow in 1986 and was the matriarch of the Contreras Family. She is survived by five of her seven children, Joe (Julie), Billy, Ricky (Margie), Connie (John)and Sandy, 14 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren and four great great grandchildren. Preceded in death are husband, Joe B. Contreras, two sons, Dave and Danny, two grandsons Daniel Contreras (Texas) and Daniel Contreras (Oxnard), son-in-law, Joe Aguilar and daughter-in-law, Hope Contreras. She has one surviving sister, Frances (Kika) Garcia. Predeceased siblings are Tilly Nunez, Joe Lopez, Valentine Lopez, Peter Lopez and Eva Castorena.

Our mom was hardworking, loved her family, music, singing and dancing. Since she quit high school at a young age to help with the family finances, she educated herself by becoming an avid reader. She worked many of the encampments in California, picking seasonal fruits. Once married and with seven children, she worked at W.T. Grants. For countless number of years she volunteered at the voting polls, always stayed informed with politics and set an example of the importance of voting.

A service to celebrate Connie’s life will be held December 7 at 9:30 a.m. in Perez Family Funeral Home, 1347 Del Norte Rd., Camarillo. In lieu of flowers, donations are appreciated for Mary Health of the Sick, in Newbury Park, her home since May 2021, that provided professional and loving compassionate care.
