Life long California resident Catherine Irene Markowitz, 53, died in her home in Oxnard, on August 21st, 2011.
A memorial service will be held August 29th, 2011, at Oakwood Cemetery at 22601 Lassen Street, in Chatsworth. She will be interred next to her mother.
Ms. Markowitz was born on August 17th, 1958, to Mabel and Irwin Markowitz in St. John’s hospital in Santa Monica. She was the second of three children for the Markowitz’s that include one sister and one brother.
Ms. Markowitz spent her childhood in the greater Los Angeles area, living in the Palms, Chatsworth, and Calabasas. She graduated from Agoura High School in Agoura, California, in 1976. She attended UCLA and UCSB and earned her bachelors of arts in history from UCSB in 1981.
Ms. Markowitz worked for Rocketdyne in Canoga Park and Robinson Textiles in Gardena for 20 years before a serious back injury forced her to retire. In recent years, Ms. Markowitz volunteered at St. John’s hospital in Oxnard at the gift shop and earned a volunteer of the year award.
Her interests included photography, reading, and writing. She devoted much her photography to subjects to do with the ocean including surfing, swimming, piers, and beaches.
Ms. Markowitz is survived by her brother Robert, sister Carol, sister-in-law Annette, Aunts Hazel and Ruth, and Uncles Bill, Gordie, and Tom.
