Calvert Farney

d. June 4, 2012

Calvert "Cal" Farney Jr. Calvert (Cal) Darrel Farney, Jr., 49, passed away peacefully at home on June 4, 2012. He was born September 9, 1962 in New Bedford, MA to Calvert and Loraine Farney. He was raised in Fairhaven, graduated from New Bedford High School and then lived in New York City where he was a musician and sound engineer. In 2005, he moved to Santa Paula, CA where he married Maureen (Mo) McManus. Cal’s life was centered on family, friends, and music. From the age of six, when he began to play the piano, he was focused on music - as a keyboard performer, a composer (often with his sister Lori), a sound engineer and much more. In later years, he found great joy in his marriage to Maureen with whom he reunited nineteen years after they first met on Nantucket Island where Cal was playing keyboard with The Irresistibles, Nantucket’s premier summer party band. His family and friends remember and celebrate him as a talented man of quiet strength and great intelligence. He was unfailingly good-natured with flashes of gently sarcastic wit. Above all, Cal was a man who loved and cherished his family and friends. Cal is survived by his wife, Maureen Farney of Santa Paula, California, brother Wayne (Lisa) Farney of Fairhaven, MA, his mother Loraine Farney and sister Lori Farney of Nashville, TN, and nieces Claire and Bridget and nephew Paul Brokaw of Santa Paula. He was preceded in death by his father Calvert (Pete) Farney. Maureen and the family give special thanks to the staff of Vitas Hospice Care for their gentle and compassionate care of Cal. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 9th at 1 p.m. at Perez Family Funeral Home, 1347 Del Norte Road, Camarillo, California. Donations in Cal’s memory may be sent to Sweet Relief Musicians Fund at www.sweetrelief.org dedicated to healing musicians in need; Mr. Holland's Opus Foundation at www.mhopus.org to keep music alive in our schools; or Santa Paula Animal Rescue Center, a no kill animal shelter located at 705 E. Santa Barbara St., Santa Paula, CA 93060.
