Beverly Jean Wagstaff's journey began on February 28, 1929, in Oakland, California
She was the cherished daughter of Kate and Harold Petersen and the beloved sister to Barbara. Growing up in Ventura County, she developed a spirit of warmth and community that would follow her for the rest of her days. She graduated from Ventura High School in 1948, where her passion for music blossomed as she played the flute in the school band. It was at an American Legion dance, where fate introduced her to her soulmate, Jim. Together, they embarked on a beautiful adventure that would last 65 years, filled with love and family.
In 1955, Beverly and Jim settled in El Rio, where they welcomed ten children into their hearts and home. Imagine the laughter, the chaos, and the countless memories created in those walls. She was also
a mother to the neighborhood, always welcoming others into her home with open arms. Her generosity knew no bounds, and her kindness was a beacon of light in the lives of all who knew her.
Beverly was a master seamstress, creating beautiful garments for her children and grandchildren, from everyday clothing to stunning wedding dresses. She had an uncanny ability to bring her visions to life, a reflection of her creativity and dedication. Each stitch was a testament to her love, a tangible piece of her heart woven into every ensemble.
Her love for family extended beyond sewing. Beverly was an adventurer at heart. She took her children on trips to the beach, to museums, and even to Disneyland, filling their lives with joy and wonder. After Jim’s retirement, they traveled in their RV, creating cherished memories as they explored the beauty of this country and visited their children. Her zest for life was infectious, and she embraced every opportunity to learn, to see, and to experience new things.
Beverly's love for her family was boundless. She was not just a mother; she was a proud grandmother to 24 grandchildren, a great-grandmother to 33, and a great-great-grandmother to four. Each of them held a special place in her heart, and she cherished every moment spent with them. Summer visits were a highlight, where laughter and love filled her home, creating a legacy of togetherness that will be passed down for generations.
Beyond her family, Beverly had a profound appreciation for nature, birds, and her flower garden. She found joy in the simple pleasures of life, whether it was a scoop of ice cream, a good puzzle, or a spirited game of cards. She was a fierce competitor in Bunco and always rooted for the underdog, embodying the very essence of kindness and encouragement. Her smile could light up a room, and her laughter was a melody that will echo in our hearts forever.
As we remember Beverly today, let us honor her legacy of love, kindness, and resilience. Though she has left this earthly realm, her spirit will continue to guide us. She taught us the importance of family, the joy of giving, and the beauty of a life well-lived.
As we say goodbye, let us carry Beverly’s love in our hearts as we continue to honor her memory in our lives. She was our guiding light, our source of strength, and our beloved matriarch. You will be deeply missed, but your love will forever remain a part of us.
Rest in peace, dear Beverly. We love you.
