Betty June (Rider) Pape, 93, of Thousand Oaks, passed away Saturday, Dec. 17, 2011, in Thousand Oaks.
She lived in Thousand Oaks for over 30 years. She was born July 11, 1918, in Spencerville, Ohio, to parents, James Earl Rider and Hazel O. Lowery. She was raised in Spencerville and graduated from Spencerville High School. She married Ora L. Shaw in 1941, was divorced and married Roland A. Pape in 1950.
After living in Pompano Beach, Fla., with her brother, Richard, they moved to Thousand Oaks in 1979. Betty worked in her son's business for over 30 years. She loved all sports, but especially the Los Angeles Dodgers and Lakers. Betty loved golf, boating and being near the water. She was a fun loving, outgoing person who loved being with her friends and family. She and her very close friend, Olivia Corio, spent hours talking on the telephone, going to the movies and attending church together.
Betty was very close to her family and was especially fond of her two great-granddaughters, Caitlin and Julianne. Betty is survived by her son, Dean Shaw and his wife Janet (Newbury Park); grandsons, Brad Shaw (Thousand Oaks) and Robert Shaw (Newbury Park); great-granddaughters, Caitlin and Julianne Shaw (Newbury Park). Betty was preceded in death by her brother, Richard Rider, in December 1999.
A celebration of life will be held at Ascension Lutheran Church, 1600 E. Hillcrest Dr., Thousand Oaks, CA 91362, at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 7, 2012. In lieu of flowers donations on behalf of Betty Pape may be made to Ascension Lutheran Church, Thousand Oaks, or Assisted Home Hospice at www.assisted1.com.
