Basilio Moreno, 87, of Oxnard completed his journey here on earth and went home to be with our Heavenly Father on February 1st, 2014. He was born October 4, 1926. He married the late Rosa Moreno in 1967 and they lived together in Oxnard, CA.
Basilio started his career in California agriculture until finding an opportunity in Oxnard working construction. Basilio was a “construction” worker until he retired in 1991 , to take care of his sick wife, after her passing. It didn’t slow him down. He took over her duties keeping up with Monday night caldo as well as babysitting, chauffeuring. However You could have just as easily found him fixing a roof or laying down concrete at the ripe age of 84.
Basilio was a member of the Santa Clara Chapel where he had a favorite seat next to the stained glass window. Basilio also enjoyed reading the newspaper with his children and having cafe con pan dulce.
Above all, Basilio loved his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, as well as his siblings, nephews and friends. Basilio is survived by his children Laura, Pablo, Andres, Benjamin and Cristina of Oxnard and Rebeca of Saltillo, Mexico. He is also survived by 26 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren.
He not only served at patriarch of the family but also as a living embodiment of strength, courage, perseverance, graciousness, humility and love. Everything his family hopes to emulate in his honor.
He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
A visitation for Basilio was held on Thursday Evening February 6th located at the Perez Family Funeral Home. Mass will be celebrated on Friday, February 7, 2014 located at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in Oxnard. Burial will follow at Santa Clara Cemetery in Oxnard.
