Art passed away peacefully in his home on August 26, 2011 from a lengthy illness. His family surrounded him during his finals days until his last moment with us.
He was born September 23, 1950 in Ventura, CA to Frances Gomez Almaguer and Thomas Almaguer. Raised in Moorpark, CA he graduated from Moorpark High School in 1969 and served the United States Army from 1970-1975. Art worked as a meatcutter for Ralph’s and Vons markets where he made both his coworkers and customers happy. He retired in 2005.
Art (also fondly known as “Otis”) loved jet-skiing and spending time at the lake with his family, as well as vacationing in Laughlin, NV. He enjoyed drinking Budweiser with his friends and family, relaxing on the porch, and listening to oldies music (especially the Beatles). When he was young he owned a few Corvettes and played guitar in a band; he played the guitar into his older years.
Art will always be remembered for his great sense of humor. He was the first to give his nephews a hard time, and had a nickname for everyone.
His family would like to extend their most sincere gratitude to Karen and Jeanette of TLC Hospice, Dr. Dua, Beth, and staff of Simi Dialysis Center, and Vicki and staff at Simi Valley Hospital. Thank you for caring for him as one of your own.
Art is survived by mother Frances Almaguer of Moorpark; daughter Jenny Almaguer Nilsson (husband Tait) of Lincoln, CA; son Mike Almaguer of Moorpark; brothers Tomas Almaguer of San Francisco; Jerry Almaguer, Robert Almaguer, and Paul Almaguer (wife Mirna) of Moorpark; Rick Almaguer of Simi Valley; sister Annette Paredes (husband Gino) of Grayson, GA; sisters Susie Almaguer and Melissa Gomez (husband Al) of Moorpark, and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He will join his father, Thomas Almaguer, in heaven.
