Andrea Kathryn Gillen Browne Berka 76, died at St Johns Hospital on Tuesday, March 18, 2014 of medical complications following surgery.
Born September 22, 1937 in Brooklyn, New York, Andrea attended St Josephs Academy in Brentwood, New York High School and gradutated with a Bachelor of Arts degree from Ladycliff College in Highland Falls N.Y. followed by a career as a teacher of disabled children in where they resided in Camarillo. Andrea worked in the Ventura County School System as a substitute teacher and tutor. She also worked part-time as a telephone operator and library clerk. She was a long time active member of St Mary Magdalen Parish serving throughout the years alternatively in many capacities as Choir Member, Lector, Cantor, Prayer Group Member, Core Team Leader of Women's Retreat, Chairman of the Parish Liturgy Committee, Bereavement Minister and even a cook for the priests. Among other varied and interesting activities, Andrea was a volunteer for Right to Life, had a brief time as a disc jockey for KDAR Christian Radio Station, and a Library Page for the Catholic Archdiocese of Los Angeles.
She is survived by her sons, John Joseph Berka and Jeffrey Emile Berka and brother Larry Browne of New York.
She was preceded in death in 1989 by son, Andrew James Gerard Berka and her husband of 47 years Joseph Rudolph Berka, who passed in 2007.
Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, March 26, 2014 at 10am located at St Mary Magdalen Chapel in Camarillo. Burial will follow at Conejo Mountain in Camarillo.
