Agustin L. Paniagua (1924 - 2012)
Agustin was born in Moroleon, Guanajuato Mexico to Salvador and Daria Paniagua, on January 19, 1924 and went to reunite with the love of his life Josefina on June 2, 2012 surrounded by his family. Agustin and Josefina were married for 61 years.
While born in Mexico, Agustin spent 7 of his early years with his parents in Joliet, Illinois. In 1931, during the great economic depression, more than 350,000 citizens and residents were forced to return to Mexico either through deportation or through "voluntary departure." Agustin, with his parents and his new young sister, chose voluntary departure and returned to Mexico.
Agustin returned to the States to labor in the fields under the Bracero Program in the early 50's. After working many seasons throughout the state, Agustin chose to settle in Oxnard with his wife and young family. Agustin worked hard in the fields for years and eventually transitioned to working for Petoseed, pruning trees for Santa Paula Lemon Co., laboring railroad track for Pacific Railroad and fabricating mobile homes for Dual Wide. After gaining a good grasp of the English language, Agustin gained employment with Camarillo State Hospital where he retired after over 10 years of service.
Agustin was a hard working man who loved his family more than life. He was proud of his history, loved telling stories about how he came to this country, and loved spending time with his family including cooking for them and inviting everyone over to enjoy the food he prepared. Agustin believed "La comida" was what brought the family together and this was how he showed his love for all. His favorite times were spent during family gatherings whether it was for birthdays, holidays or BBQ's just because the weather was nice.
He loved to practice his cursive writing as well as word searches which helped him reaffirm his knowledge of the English language. Additionally, he loved playing solitaire and found true peace ensuring the lawn was manicured and the garden was a beauty for all to enjoy. He was an avid Los Angeles Dodgers fan and loved watching their games on TV, or listening to the game on the radio or even attending a live game with family when he could.
Agustin was preceded in death by the love of his life, Josefina Paniagua Lopez.
Agustin will be forever loved, cherished and missed by his six children: Eliuth "Lula" Zamudio (David), Rosalva Paniagua, Salvador Paniagua (Maria Elena), Agustin Paniagua (David), Jaime Paniagua (Richard) and Rodrigo Paniagua (Sherri); 11 grand children: Eliuth "Lulie" Alcaraz (Jaime), David Zamudio Jr. (Jossette), Salvador Paniagua Jr., Veronica Lake (Joshua), Elizabeth Aguilar (Rudy), Vanessa Paniagua, Amanda Perez (Daniel), Adrian, April, Annette and Austin Paniagua; and 11 great grandchildren: Jaime, Samantha, Adan and Daniel Alcaraz, Alissa, Rodo and Jacob Aguilar, Sasha Becerra, Moraiah Ramirez, Lucas Plunkett and Landon Lake.
